US Shipping Update: Australia Post Suspends Parcels

Author: Luke Adkins  Date Posted: 26 August 2025

Australia Post has temporarily suspended many parcel services from Australia to the United States (including Puerto Rico) until further notice. This pause follows recent changes to U.S. import-tariff rules that require new data and prepayment processes before parcels can enter the country.

What this means for Australian Computer Traders customers

  • New U.S. orders sent via Australia Post: We’ve paused checkout/shipping via Australia Post to U.S. addresses for now.

  • Existing U.S. orders not yet dispatched: Our team will contact you to cancel & refund orders to U.S addresses that have not been dispatched as of the 25th August 2025.

  • Letters/documents: Reports indicate letters and documents are not impacted; the suspension primarily affects parcels. Gifts under a low value threshold may also be exempt, but guidance is evolving.

Australia Post has said it’s working on a compliant solution with partners so services can resume as soon as possible. We’ll update this page as official guidance is published.

Why this is happening

The U.S. is ending its long-standing de minimis rule (previously allowing most parcels under US$800 to enter duty-free). Postal operators worldwide, including Australia Post, are adjusting systems to collect duties and transmit additional customs data before items arrive. Until that’s in place, postal routes to the U.S. are paused.
